Green energy is the term used to describe sources of energy that are considered to be environmentally friendly and non-polluting, such as geothermal, wind, solar, and hydro power. nuclear power is also considered a green energy source by some experts.Sustainable energy is the provision of energy such that it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs These sources have lower carbon emissions and create less pollution.Green energy concept comes mainly in the context of electricity generation. efficient energy use as well as mechanical power, heating and cogeneration all are important for this. Renewable energy certificateshave been one way for consumers and businesses to support green energy. Green energy or Going green is both a corporate advantage and an opportunity for humanity to enable change.India has a vast supply of green energy resources, and has a significant program for deploying these resources. The Renewable Energy market in India is tipped at US$600 million, growing at 15% per annum.Renewable energy is expected to produce 10,000 MW by 2012. The the various types of Renewable Energy are- Wind Energy, Solar Energy, Hydro electric and bio mass energy.

Green energy sources
Green energy includes natural energetic processes like Anaerobic digestion, geothermal power, wind power, small-scale hydropower, solar energy, biomass power, tidal power, and wave power that can be harnessed with little or no pollution. power derived from the incineration of waste may also come under this category. Keeping apart the problems associated with radioactive waste and the risk of nuclear accidents , some experts claim nuclear power as green energy. All energy sources require energy and give rise to some degree of pollution from manufacture of the technology.

Comparison to non-green sources
Many sudies have been conducted in this field. These studies concluded that nuclear power produced 3.3 grams of carbon dioxide per kilowatt-hour of produced power. This compares to 400 g/(kW·h) for natural gas and 700 g/(kW·h) for coal . and also that nuclear power produced the smallest amount of CO2 of any of their electricity sources.

Purchasing green energy through the electrical grid
The electricity retailing arrangements make it possible for consumers to purchase green electricity from a green power provider. n many countries green energy currently provides a very small amount of electricity, generally contributing less than 2 to 5% to the overall pool.By participating in a green energy program a consumer may be having an effect on the energy sources used and ultimately might be helping to promote and expand the use of green energy. But they may have to pay a price premium to support renewable energy. In some electricity companies guarantee to buy an equal amount of 'green power' as is being used by their green power customers.Renewable resources, due to the amount of space they require, are often located in remote areas where there is a lower energy demand. ransporting this energy to high demand areas are not viable now. despite the amount of renewable energy produced or the economic viability of such technologies only about 20 percent will be able to be incorporated into the grid due to the limitations. these distribution problems must be solved. Energy conservation efforts are the foremost . decentralizing the grid would increase efficiency by reducing the amount of energy lost in transmission.A more recent concept for improving our electrical grid is to beam microwaves from Earth-orbiting satellites or the moon to directly when and where there is demand. The power would be generated from solar energy captured on the lunar surface.

Organisational activities:
The World Wide Fund for Nature and several green electricity labelling organizations have created the Eugene Green Energy Standard to ensure that the purchase of green energy leads to the provision of additional new green energy resources.
